Tallinna Haabersti
Gümnaasium
is a general education school located in the Haabersti
district of Tallinn, Estonia. The school underwent a name
change in March 2025 to reflect its transition to Estonian-
language instruction, aligning with national educational
policies.
Historical
Background
- Establishment: The school's origins
date back to 1937 when it was
founded as Tallinna Reaalkool nr 5,
initially serving as a boys' school. - Evolution: Over the years, the
institution underwent several
transformations, including becoming
a coeducational school in 1940 and
relocating to its current address at
Õismäe tee 132 in 1986.
In line with Estonia's national policy to transition
schools to Estonian-language instruction, the school
community—including the teaching staff,
administration, and student representatives—
unanimously supported removing the term "Vene"
(Russian) from the school's name. This change
reflects the institution's commitment to integrating
into the Estonian educational framework.
